Three and a half million years ago, our ancestors walked across a volcanic landscape in what is now northern Tanzania, leaving their footprints pressed into the ash. Those footprints are still there, preserved beneath the surface — and on this 12-day expedition, you will stand on the very ground where they were discovered.

In Search of Ancient Places and Wild Spaces blends in-depth visits to Tanzania’s most extraordinary human origins sites with spectacular wildlife safaris and meaningful encounters with the Hadzabe and Maasai — communities whose ways of life connect our deep past to the living present. Maasai Pastoralists

Stand on the ground where the 3.6-million-year-old Laetoli footprints were discovered — the oldest footprints of upright-walking ancestors ever found — and meet Maasai pastoralists who have lived alongside the wildlife of the Crater for generations.

Serengeti and Art

Experience two days of wildlife safari in the iconic Serengeti grasslands and discover ancient rock art at the Moru Kopjes, painted by early inhabitants of this timeless landscape.
